BLYS Instructor of the Month
Melissa Lorusso

Primary style of yoga taught
and practiced?
Teaching primarily Hot Power Vinyasa
classes, although I love teaching beginners and hope to be able
to teach a beginner style class someday. I practice with several
different teachers and different styles. I love Ashtanga and
focusing on alignment. I also like to have fun and have been
starting to practice Acroyoga and Aerial Yoga.
What is the biggest
challenge in your yoga practice?
Slowing the mind down and breathing. After 12 years it’s still
challenging to not get distracted by the "mind stuff” and I know
this will always be my challenge.
Favorite Yoga Pose?
Hmmmm Savasana! of course! But also locust.
What is your biggest
"aha" yoga moment?
When I first started practicing, I was in my early 20's and
constantly pushed myself to do "the poses better", then I
realized my ego was way too involved and I backed off a ton! My
practice became something else entirely, and it led me to a
place I had no idea yoga could lead me.
What do you enjoy most about
teaching at BLYS?
Our students!!! Teaching is a sort
of therapy in itself for me, and I'm always so appreciative of
the opportunities our students give me. I love the challenges
when I have to find a new approach to a pose to help a student
achieve it for their own body.
